Dental Assistant Academy absolutely helped me get a job in this field. I graduated in November of 2020 and got hired with Shine Orthodontics at their two offices in Lebanon and Maineville, Ohio. My first day working was only 3 weeks after graduation.
I needed a new career because I had stopped working when I was pregnant with my son and continued to be a stay-at-home mom after he was born. A year and a half later, I was ready to start working again but knew that I didn’t want to go back to working as a server/bartender. The shifts were always long and late and I felt bad not being home to put my kids to bed or have dinner with them.
I was interested in dental and orthodontic assisting as a career because my sister had completed a similar course in Texas and loved the field. She recommended that I look for something comparable here, knowing that I didn’t want to continue working in the restaurant industry.
I chose Dental Assistant Academy because I had received an email about the academy from Dr. Ison’s practice and contemplated starting the program MONTHS before I actually took the leap. It came down to my sister going through a similar course in Texas and that gave me the push to go through with registering for the DAA Course.
In getting started, I was wasn’t sure about whether or not I would be able to retain all of the information we were learning. At first, it seemed like it was A LOT!! But what I found was everything we discuss in class was in the book or printouts. I would go home from class on Saturday and study everything we went over, make flash cards and make sure to write any questions I had for Katie for the next class. Studying really helped me retain the information and assure myself that I was understanding everything. Once I was comfortable with the terminology and actions, everything almost came as second nature. I definitely psyched myself out. Just pay attention
The education was so thorough! I was so impressed with how much information and detail we learned. I was extremely thrilled that it was a mixture between learning through reading and learning though hands on labs. The labs made everything that we were reading make sense.
The facilities were impeccable! Clean and professional. The office flowed so nicely. It really helped to be in an actual dental/ortho office so that we could see the real life instruments we’d be using every day.
Katie, Hannah and Jamie were the perfect instructors. They were REAL with us. They were open to sharing stories to make us prepared for exactly what we should expect. They were eager to answer questions so that they could be sure we were actually understanding and not struggling. The other students are people that I will remember for the rest of my life. Some of us, I’m sure, will remain friends for years to come. We were all so ready to help each other and learn from each other. I couldn’t have asked for better people to have by my side through this experience.
Now that I’ve graduated, I am so incredibly happy that I took this course and that I did it with DAA. My new job is amazing! I work with incredible people. They are all so impressed with my vast knowledge of orthodontics and keep asking me where I took my course and are so impressed that we had 5 weeks of Orthodontics study. DAA is unlike the other dental assisting programs around here. They go above and beyond to make sure their students know enough of everything. I’ve been working for one week and I’m already doing adjustments on my own and that’s because DAA gave me the tools I needed to be successful in this industry and my employer obviously sees that and agrees. I could not be more thankful!
